Review Season 58
A season of building doesn’t necessarily has to be a season without champagne! Only 3 wins, but very significant ones scored by three separate riders who never before crossed the line first in a street-race. Doing so, the team scored its first and second trophy, both in Division 2, in some very heavy fields. Granted, the tours and most other races didn’t work out very well, but winning Mito – Tokyo AND Grasse – Toulon is so much more than we could have possibly dreamt of.
Our team proves to be up to the level of competition in Zyte Division, comfortably staying in the upper regions of D2 for the entire season, despite its restless transfer policy. With 10 incoming and 6 outgoing transfers it must have been one of the most active teams on the transfer market. Both Tijmen Van Lieshout and Nordin Moerenhout had to leave, together responsible for 3 palmares, 10 wins and nearly 400k prizemoney for the team. Even Denny Dominguez is no longer welcome at the team. The level of expectation is clearly rising at the team and riders that have been pivotal in getting Silenzio where it is now, are thanked for their contribution and can seek their luck elsewhere.
The scouting network of the team has been exploited patiently and sometimes desperately. Some talents that fit in are to be trained, others are sold. It means the team now looks for funds to continue the training of three potential future stars. Reynardo Ceballos and Gus Bailey are two young sprint talents the team is looking to build on in the future. If they fulfil their potential they might be the new leaders, or otherwise they will form decent support for the young Hungarian captains of the current team Rajnay Bela and Sima Ervin. Both of the Hungarians have been complaining about the lack of support in accentuated profiles last season, which made the team hire a couple of fairly cheap hill helpers to assist them in more races. If young Norwegian Sigbjørn Bjørnsen develops well though, the hillers might be all in his service and the Hungarians can start complaining again.
The goals of the team of next season are still somewhat vague. It is probable that several riders will get their chances. Hunting day races to optimize prizemoney to utilize training will be the most urgent goal of the team. Rajnay Bela certainly dreams of glory in NL Tour and looks to improve his time trialling to do so. An early season attempt at the Volta ao Porto-SC followed by a period of preparation for the prestigious Dutch tour is certainly something that is considered.
